EISCAT_3D is a project led by EISCAT Scientific Association.
EISCAT_3D is a three-dimensional imaging radar to be located in the northernmost parts of Europe. It will be making continuous measurements of the geospace environment and its coupling to the Earth's atmosphere from its location in the auroral zone at the southern edge of the northern polar vortex.

The EISCAT_3D Preparatory Phase ends

The EU-funded EISCAT_3D Preparatory Phase project comes to a close today after four years of hard work by the entire team. EISCAT_3D is now poised to proceed to an Implementation Phase, pending funding commitments from the interested national research councils.

EISCAT would like to thank everybody that have been involved in this project for making it as successful as it has been.

Joint NSF and EISCAT radar summer school 2014 at Arecibo

The 2014 incoherent scatter radar summer school was held at the Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico, from July 21 to July 26. The school provided students with hands-on experience in designing and running experiments at incoherent scatter radar facilities.

EISCAT_3D Technical Meeting in Kiruna, 5 November 2013

A meeting took place at Space Campus, Kiruna, on 5 November with EISCAT_3D Preparatory Phase participants working on technical aspects of the radar system.

This meeting was motivated by the fact that since with less than one year remaining of the Preparatory Phase, it's time to make sure that the different Work Packages finishes on schedule. In addition, feedback from some major funding applications was expected shortly and, assuming positive outcome, there would be little time to get a fully production-ready design of the system.

SSA discussion meeting with ESA and Swedish organisations (22-23 October 2013)

On 22 - 23 October a discussion meeting was held in Kiruna, Sweden, with representatives from European Space Agency, EISCAT Scientific Association and several Swedish organisations. The main topic of the discussions was the ESA SSA programme and activities in relation to the requirements from Swedish organisations.

The first half of the meeting contained presentations about the ESA SSA programme and the Swedish organisations present at the meeting:
